Experience the Extraordinary at St. Joseph Cathedral

With striking features like the shingled spire, vaulted interior, and stained-glass windows, this Gothic-style Roman Catholic church dominates the harbor front of Dar es Salaam. Built by German missionaries between 1897 and 1902, today this iconic landmark also acts as the seat of the Dar es Salaam archdiocese. Original German inscriptions and artwork still adorn the walls, including the carved relief above the main altar. Sunday is often considered to be the best time to visit the church, as the morning service gives rise to an extraordinary atmosphere.
